Note that for most records pertaining to New Zealand prior to 1889, the Society’s General Archives in Rome is the responsible repository.
For baptisms and other sacraments, please contact the parish or diocese where they were celebrated. The Archives does not hold sacramental records.
For pupil records, please contact the relevant school. The Archives does not hold pupil records.
Access and Charges
Requests for information are required in writing and are to include the requester’s address and when applicable, the relationship to the person about whom information is requested. Release of personal information follows the provisions of the Privacy Act 2020.
There is no automatic right of access to the Archives and the supply of information is ultimately at our discretion to the extent possible within the constraints of time and resources.
Staff are unable to undertake detailed research on behalf of enquirers other than in exceptional circumstances, in which case a fee may apply. There is a fee for commercial use. Limited research enquiries may be carried out free of charge.
Donations to help offset the costs of running and maintaining the Archives are welcomed.
